JPI's FS-450 was named Product of the Year by Aviation Consumer. It is our top choice because it offers all the necessary options for fuel management.
JPI's latest technological gem eliminates fuel management issues that have become relics of the past. Installed between the top row of flight instruments and the top of the avionics stack, the FS-450 flashes and displays numbers to answer any fuel situation questions.
Connected to our Honeywell Skymap IIIC, the FS-450 happily flips through its inventory of information and leaves me as relaxed as a happy aviator—minus the “idiot” part, of course. Heavy quality information at a light price; what more could you ask for? Of course, easy installation would be a plus, and that's something JPI has taken care of as well.
FS-450 Features:
- Fuel used (USD):
Shows the amount of fuel used since the last refueling. This number will always increase as fuel is consumed. You can also display it on a flight with multiple refueling stops, and we'll see how to do that later in this video. - Remaining fuel (REM):
Displays the total amount of fuel remaining in the aircraft. Only the fuel remaining in the plane is taken into account. - Hours and minutes remaining (H.M.):
Based on the current fuel flow, it displays the remaining endurance time. This setting is especially useful during cruising. When climbing to sea level, the fuel flow will be almost twice as high as during cruise, and the endurance reading will be about half of reality. On the other hand, during a descent with reduced power, the endurance will indicate more time than is actually available in flight at cruise power. - Fuel required to reach waypoint/destination (REQ):
This setting will only be displayed if your EDM is receiving flight data from your GPS (standard feature included with the fuel flow option). It tells you how much fuel is needed to reach the next waypoint or destination programmed on your GPS, based on the current fuel flow and your location. - Fuel reserve (RES):
Displays fuel reserve upon arrival at the next waypoint. This setting will only be displayed if your EDM is receiving flight data from your GPS (standard feature included with the fuel flow option). It tells you how much fuel in reserve you will have when you arrive at the next waypoint or destination programmed on your GPS, based on the current fuel flow.
